About the Author

Ann Bancroft began writing fiction after a career in journalism and communications. A graduate of UC Berkeley, she has been a newspaper and wire service reporter, editorial writer, speechwriter, and journalism teacher. An early draft of Almost Family (titled The Oakland Mets) won the 2018 San Diego Book Award for best unpublished novel. She has twice been published in San Diego Writers, Ink anthology, A Year in Ink. Ann is an alumna of the Community of Writers, the Tomales Bay Writers Workshops and Everwood Farmstead artist’s residence. As an affiliate of Amherst Writers and Artists, Ann leads workshops to help writers find their voice and generate story ideas. A two-time breast cancer survivor, she has mentored dozens of cancer patients through the University of California, Davis Cancer Center and Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization. She and her husband split their time between Sacramento and Coronado, California.

The way she said that, “support systems,” made me think of the guy in Bangladesh when your hard drive craps out. And I mean, why were we in there in the first place if our support systems were so great?
